In Vitro Fertilization Treatment, Opportunities, Possibilities, Risks And Options

A sperm sample will be required for PCOS to proceed. Your male partner will produce the sample or one from an anonymous donor is used. The sperm sample is taken through washing where the surrounding fluid is removed. The next phase involves separation of fast moving from slow sperms. The healthy fast moving sperm is placed in a catheter in case of IUI or used in the lab for IVF to fertilize the retrieved egg.

Is IVF the only solution to infertility? Artificial insemination is an option when treating infertility. It is open to women using donor sperms instead of intercourse. It is also the solution of choice if a woman has a disorder or disability that does not allow intercourse to take place. Where a man is likely to pass a disease or infection to the mother or unborn child, IUI is recommended. The IUI treatment procedure works by inserting sperms into the uterus to facilitate fertilization. Note the difference in that IVF involves fertilizing the egg outside and placement of the embryo into the uterus.

What options do you have apart from IVF? There are instances where artificial insemination is preferred compared to IVF. If the sperm is being donated, have a condition that cannot allow intercourse or there is a risk of passing a disease, IUI will be the preferred method. The IUI treatment procedure is where sperms are inserted into the uterus to facilitate fertilization. Note that in IVF, the egg is fertilized and the embryo inserted. The process of preparation is similar to IVF, only that the egg will not be retrieved but the sperm will be inserted into the uterus.

For some couples and women, they have failed to find a solution to their fertility even after numerous procedures and tests. They are advised to try IVF. If the fallopian tubes of a woman have been removed, she will find a solution in IVF. Some people have genetic reproductive disorders which make natural fertilization a challenge. These are the cases where a doctor may recommend IVF.

Insemination will follow egg retrieval and washing. The fast moving sperm and retrieved egg or eggs are put in special conditions in the laboratory where fertilization will take place. If the process cannot take place on its own for whatever reason, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI takes place. During ICSI, the medical practitioners inject a single sperm manually into the egg.

The process of transferring the embryo takes place around three to five days after retrieval. A small tube or catheter is placed into the womb through a painless procedure. However, some women have reported mild cramps. Where the procedure is successful, implantation will take place within six to ten days.

There are risks involved and danger signs that women should look out for. Any pelvic pain or heavy bleeding should be a cause for alarm. Appearance of blood in urine is a reason to alert your doctor immediately. You also need immediate medical attention if the temperature of your body rises beyond 38 degrees Celsius.

There are many factors that will affect the rate of IVF success. Among them is maternal age, history of your reproductive and general health, the cause of infertility and your lifestyle. Remember that successful IVF does not guarantee life birth. You have an opportunity for multiple pregnancies, but you should consult your doctor.

Are there alternatives to IVF when treating infertility? A woman or couple may choose artificial insemination in place of IVF. Where a partner is no there, donor sperm will be used. If the woman has a disorder that does not allow intercourse, IUI will be the best option. This option is also preferred if the man can pass a disease to the woman and eventually to the child. IUI treatment procedure involves the insertion of sperms into the uterus to facilitate fertilization. On the other hand, during IVF, fertilization takes place outside and the embryo is inserted into the uterus for implantation.

Three days after the retrieval of eggs and washing of sperms, the embryo should be ready for insertion into the uterus. A catheter or small tube is used for this purpose. The procedure is painless. It is only after insertion that some women report mild cramps. If the process is successful, you should expect implantation in six to ten days.

Fertility medication comes with own side effects but they do not apply to all women equally. You might experience several degrees of headache depending on your health levels and other physiological factors. Most women also experience mood swings at varying degrees. There are chances of abdominal pain and hot flashes. Bloating is also a possibility and in very rare cases, OHSS or Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome.

To successfully complete the process, you need to monitor whether fertilization took place. It is only after it has taken place that cell division begins and eventually an embryo is formed. All the eggs that are retrieved from the woman are not necessarily fertilized. Further, all fertilized eggs do not have to be placed into the uterus. This delicate procedure requires professional attention.
